Pirate Company History

Pirate is a film and television company set up by director Annie Griffin in 1995. Since 1997, Pirate has been based in Scotland.

After making a number of documentaries for British television, Pirate's first series was COMING SOON, a three part comedy drama for Channel 4 shown in 1999.

Our next series was THE BOOK GROUP, which debuted on Channel 4 in 2001. Set in Glasgow, THE BOOK GROUP was a comedy/drama of six half hour programmes. The second series was screened in 2002.

In 2005 we released our first feature film, FESTIVAL.

Pirate has created a pilot for BBC1 called PURVES + PEKKALA. If commissioned, the series would be six episodes of one hour. It's a mystery set in Edinburgh.
